"Personal Jesus" is a song by English electronic band Depeche Mode, released as the lead single from their seventh studio album Violator in August 1989 through Mute Records. The track achieved significant chart success, reaching number 13 on the UK singles chart and number 28 on the US Billboard Hot 100. It marked their first US top 40 entry since 1984 and became their initial gold-certified single in America. The song remained on the West German Singles Chart for 23 weeks. Anton Corbijn directed the accompanying music video, which was filmed in Spain.
