"Handle with Care" served as the debut single for the British-American supergroup the Traveling Wilburys, released in October 1988. The song also opened their first album, Traveling Wilburys Vol. 1. Originally conceived as a bonus track for a George Harrison European single, record company executives deemed it too valuable for that limited purpose, leading to the group's formation. Although Harrison primarily wrote the composition, all five band members—Harrison, Jeff Lynne, Bob Dylan, Roy Orbison, and Tom Petty—received songwriting credits, consistent with the album's approach.
