Dr. Hook & the Medicine Show was an American rock band that emerged from Union City, New Jersey, in 1968. The group achieved significant commercial success throughout the 1970s and early 1980s, producing numerous hit singles including "Sylvia's Mother," "The Cover of 'Rolling Stone,'" and "Sexy Eyes." Beyond their own compositions, the band notably performed material written by poet Shel Silverstein, a creative partnership that distinguished their catalog. Active until 1985, Dr. Hook & the Medicine Show blended rock, pop, and country elements, establishing themselves as a prominent fixture in soft rock during their peak years.
