St. Anger is Metallica's eighth studio album, released in June 2003 through Elektra Records in the United States and Vertigo Records in other regions. It marked the final album released by the band through Elektra and their last collaborative effort with longtime producer Bob Rock, whom they had worked with since 1990. The album was notably recorded without a permanent bassist after Jason Newsted's departure, with Rock filling the role during sessions.
