The Dixiebelles
The Dixiebelles were an American girl group that achieved brief prominence during the early 1960s. They gained widespread recognition through their chart success, notably with "(Down at) Papa Joe's," which reached number nine on the Billboard Hot 100 in late 1963. Their subsequent release, "Southtown U.S.A.," proved equally successful, climbing to number fifteen in early 1964. Both recordings were helmed by producer Bill Justis and issued through Sound Stage 7 Records, a subsidiary label of Monument Records. The group's name appears as one word on their original record releases.
