"Fantasy" was released in August 1995 as the lead single from Mariah Carey's fifth studio album, Daydream. The track was written and produced by Carey alongside Dave Hall. It incorporates a sample from Tom Tom Club's 1981 hit "Genius of Love." A remix version featuring rap contributions from Ol' Dirty Bastard was created to help Carey establish a presence in hip-hop music.
