The Dismemberment Plan is an American rock band from Washington, D.C., formed in January 1993 by members who met during their high school years in northern Virginia. The band's distinctive name references a comedic phrase from the 1993 film Groundhog Day. Fronted by Travis Morrison with guitarists Jason Caddell and bassist Eric Axelson, the group solidified its classic lineup when drummer Joe Easley joined following the release of their debut album, replacing original drummer Steve Cummings. Operating across math rock, indie rock, and post-hardcore genres, the Dismemberment Plan became known for their angular, experimental approach to rock music before disbanding in 2015.
