A bolero composition created by Mexican songwriter Consuelo Velázquez in 1932, this song became one of the most significant works in Latin music history and achieved widespread popularity as both a pop standard and jazz standard during the twentieth century. It was officially acknowledged in 1999 as the most frequently recorded and reinterpreted Spanish-language composition ever. Notable renditions were performed by Trio Los Panchos and vocalist Gigliola Cinquetti in 1968, as well as by Dalida in 1976. English language adaptations were provided by Sunny Skylar.
