Diomedes Díaz Maestre was a Colombian vallenato singer and composer who became one of the most significant figures in the genre's history. Born in 1957, he earned the title "King of Vallenato" and was known by the nickname El Cacique de La Junta, bestowed upon him by fellow vallenato artist Rafael Orozco Maestre in recognition of his hometown. Throughout his career, Díaz established himself as the preeminent Colombian singer-songwriter of vallenato music and its leading recording artist, with album sales exceeding 20 million copies worldwide. He remained active in the music industry until his death in 2013.
