AC/DC released "Who Made Who" as the opening single from their 1986 soundtrack album of the same name, which accompanied Stephen King's film Maximum Overdrive. The album functioned as both a soundtrack and compilation, with this song being one of only three newly recorded tracks; the others were instrumental pieces. A 12-inch single version with an extended mix later appeared on the Deluxe Edition of AC/DC's Backtracks Boxset. The song achieved chart success, reaching number nine in Australia, number one in Finland, and number 23 on the US Billboard Album Rock Tracks chart.
