The Abyss
Abyss was a Swedish black metal group that operated during the mid-1990s. Formed in 1994, the band became part of the Scandinavian black metal scene at a time when the genre was rapidly expanding across Northern Europe. The group remained active until 1998, during which they contributed to the development of black metal's sonic and aesthetic direction. Like many acts from their era and region, Abyss helped define the characteristics that would come to distinguish Swedish black metal from its Norwegian and Finnish counterparts.
