"Little Girl Blue: Jazz as Played in an Exclusive Side Street Club" served as Nina Simone's debut album, released by Bethlehem Records in February 1959. Although recorded in late 1957, the label delayed its release, frustrating Simone enough to sign with a competing label in April 1959. A single from the album, "I Loves You, Porgy," was eventually released in May and became her first hit, reaching number 18 on the pop charts and number 2 on the R&B charts, subsequently boosting album sales.
