The Chantels

The Chantels are an American pop group that emerged as a pioneering force in vocal harmony during the 1950s. Formed by students connected to St. Anthony of Padua Church and school in the Bronx, the group became the third African-American girl group to achieve significant nationwide recognition in the United States, following The Teen Queens and The Bobbettes. Active from 1957, they helped establish the girl group sound during an influential era of American popular music.
