Buddy Holly & The Crickets was an American rock and roll group that emerged as a central force in the genre's development during the late 1950s. Buddy Holly, born Charles Hardin Holley in Lubbock, Texas, grew up in a musical household during the Great Depression and developed his skills as a guitarist and vocalist alongside his brothers. Active from February 1957 through 2016, the band became influential pioneers of rockabilly and rock and roll, blending those styles with pop sensibilities. Holly's songwriting and performance approach left an enduring mark on popular music history.
