Load is the sixth studio album by Metallica, released through Elektra Records in the United States and Vertigo Records internationally. Recording took place between May 1995 and April 1996 primarily in Sausalito, California, with some sessions in New York City. The band recorded nearly 30 songs during a relaxed and productive period, eventually deciding to divide the material into two separate albums rather than release a double album, with the remaining songs appearing on Reload the following year.
