Reload is Metallica's seventh studio album, released through Elektra Records domestically and Vertigo Records internationally. It was recorded alongside its predecessor Load with the same producer, though the band chose to divide the material into separate albums rather than create a double release. Extra recording sessions occurred in 1997 following the Load tour cycle. The album marked the band's first studio effort to include a guest vocalist and the final studio appearance of bassist Jason Newsted.
