Load is Metallica's sixth studio album, released in June 1996 through Elektra Records domestically and Vertigo Records internationally. Recorded between May 1995 and April 1996 primarily in California with some sessions in New York, the album resulted from relaxed and productive recording sessions that generated nearly 30 songs. Rather than releasing a double album, the band divided the material into two separate releases, with the remaining songs later appearing on Reload.
