George Harrison composed this song in 1968 and presented it to the Beatles during their "Get Back" sessions in early 1969. It was not featured on the Let It Be album. Billy Preston released his own rendition on his Apple Records album in 1970. Harrison subsequently recorded his version for his debut solo album, which came out in late 1970. The song's musical arrangement was influenced by Harrison's exposure to the Band's style following time spent in Woodstock, New York during late 1968.
What the lyrics are about
Harrison's lyrics drew inspiration from Timothy Leary's poem "All Things Pass," which was a psychedelic reinterpretation of the Tao Te Ching.
