The Boomtown Rats

The Boomtown Rats are an Irish rock and new wave band established in Dublin in 1975. The group, featuring vocalist Bob Geldof alongside four bandmates from Dún Laoghaire and bassist Pete Briquette, achieved significant success between 1977 and 1985 with hit singles including "Rat Trap," "I Don't Like Mondays," and "Banana Republic." After disbanding in 1986, they reunited in 2013 in a revised formation. While the band carved out a notable place in punk and new wave music, the public profile of frontman Bob Geldof has been substantially defined by his extensive humanitarian initiatives.
