"Born This Way" is the lead single from Lady Gaga's second studio album of the same name. Co-written by Lady Gaga and Jeppe Laursen, the song was created during her Monster Ball Tour. The track draws inspiration from 1990s empowerment music and an earlier 1977 song of the same title. Gaga performed part of the chorus at the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards to introduce it as the album's lead single.
