This was the first studio album by the American punk rock group Ramones, released through Sire Records. A music publication editor discovered the band performing in New York and helped facilitate their management deal. The resulting producer convinced the record label's president to see them live, leading to a recording contract. The band completed the album in January 1976 in just one week at a minimal cost.
