"4th of July" appears as the sixth track on U2's 1984 album The Unforgettable Fire. The instrumental ambient piece resulted from an unplanned improvisation by bassist Adam Clayton and guitarist the Edge, which was captured by producers during a recording session without the band's initial awareness. The track has never been performed during a live concert, though Clayton did use it as a warm-up during a soundcheck in San Jose in April 2001.
