"99 Luftballons" is a song by West German band Nena from their 1983 self-titled album. An English-language version called "99 Red Balloons" with lyrics by Kevin McAlea was released on the album 99 Luftballons in 1984 following the original's success in Europe and Japan. The English version differs meaningfully from the German original. In the US, the English version failed to chart while the German version became Nena's sole Billboard Hot 100 hit.
