Irving Berlin composed this song in 1934–35 for Fred Astaire's starring role in the musical film Top Hat, which also featured Ginger Rogers. Astaire performs the song while dancing with Rogers in the movie. The track received an Oscar nomination for Best Song in 1936 but did not win. It achieved significant chart success, topping Your Hit Parade for five consecutive weeks and was recognized as the year's top song in 1935. Astaire's 1935 recording with the Leo Reisman Orchestra was later honored with induction into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2000.
