Load is the sixth studio album by the American heavy metal band Metallica, released in June 1996 through Elektra Records domestically and Vertigo Records elsewhere. Recording took place between May 1995 and April 1996 primarily in Sausalito, California, with some additional work completed in New York City. The band recorded nearly 30 songs during relatively relaxed and efficient sessions, eventually deciding to divide the material between two albums rather than releasing a double album.
