Chris Isaak's third album track initially received minimal commercial interest upon its July 1989 release through Reprise Records. The song's fortunes changed dramatically when an Atlanta radio programmer discovered it in David Lynch's 1990 film Wild at Heart and began playing it, transforming it into a major success. By March 1991, the track had climbed to number six on the Billboard Hot 100 and achieved chart success internationally, including reaching number one in Belgium and top ten positions elsewhere.
