John Lennon primarily composed the song, credited under the Lennon-McCartney partnership. Before the Beatles recorded it in London following their initial American tour, Lennon had offered the composition to Tommy Quickly, another artist under Brian Epstein's management, in mid-1964, though Quickly declined to record it.
