"Shut Down" was composed by Brian Wilson and Roger Christian for the Beach Boys. It features a twelve-bar blues melody structure. Released on March 4, 1963, as the B-side to "Surfin' U.S.A.", it preceded the album of that name by three weeks. Capitol Records subsequently included it on the Little Deuce Coupe album later in 1963. The single reached number 23 on the Billboard Hot 100 and number 34 in the UK charts.
