A 1964 composition written by Doc Pomus and Mort Shuman, the song was created for Elvis Presley's film of the same name. The film and song were scheduled for release the following year. Despite Presley never performing it live, the track became one of his most enduring and widely recognized works. The RIAA granted gold certification to the single pairing "Viva Las Vegas/What'd I Say" in March 1992, reflecting 500,000 units sold domestically.
