The Cry of Love represents Jimi Hendrix's initial posthumous release, compiled from recordings made primarily during 1970. The album contains unreleased material Hendrix had been developing for his intended fourth studio album prior to his death that year. Recording engineer Eddie Kramer and drummer Mitch Mitchell curated the final tracklist from Hendrix's proposed selections, with involvement from manager Michael Jeffery.
