However, the most commercially successful rendition emerged when David Houston and Tammy Wynette performed it as a duet, reaching the top of country charts in autumn 1967 and also crossing over to mainstream Billboard rankings. Wynette later revisited the song in a subsequent decade with a different duet partner.
