Bill Haley & His Comets were an American rock and roll ensemble that emerged in the late 1940s and remained active until 1981. The band achieved significant commercial success during the mid-1950s, when they recorded multiple chart-topping singles between late 1954 and late 1956, including nine top-20 hits. Their most iconic recording, "Rock Around the Clock," became the best-selling rock single of its era and retained that distinction for several years. The group's energetic fusion of rock and roll with country and western swing influences helped establish them as pioneers of early rock music.
