Me and Bobby McGee

Waylon Jennings All songs A–Z

A composition created by Kris Kristofferson with co-writing credit to Fred Foster, who inspired the song. Originally performed by Roger Miller, the track gained major prominence through a posthumous release by Janis Joplin that reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1971, becoming only the second posthumous chart-topper in U.S. history. Gordon Lightfoot achieved Canadian country chart success with the song in 1970, and Jerry Lee Lewis recorded a successful country version in late 1971/early 1972.
