This bolero composition was created in 1932 by Mexican composer Consuelo Velázquez and became one of the most significant works in Latin music history. It achieved widespread popularity as both a pop standard and jazz standard throughout the twentieth century. The song was officially recognized in 1999 as the most frequently recorded and adapted Spanish-language composition ever made. Dalida performed a version in 1976, joining other notable artists who had recorded their own interpretations.
