"Money for Nothing" is the second track on Dire Straits' fifth studio album Brothers in Arms, released in 1985. It was issued as the album's second single on 28 June 1985 through Vertigo Records. The song features a guest appearance by Sting, who performs the distinctive falsetto opening and background vocals. The accompanying music video, directed by Steve Barron, was innovative for its early use of computer-generated animated human characters and became the first video broadcast on MTV Europe when that network launched in August 1987.
