The Heptones

The Heptones are a Jamaican vocal trio who emerged as one of the most important groups of the 1960s and early 1970s. Active from 1965, they specialized in rocksteady and reggae music, delivering sophisticated three-part harmonies that defined their sound. The group played a crucial role in bridging the stylistic evolution from ska through rocksteady into reggae. Contemporaries of major acts like the Wailers and the Maytals, the Heptones achieved comparable prominence during the mid-1960s, establishing themselves as significant figures in Jamaican popular music.
