The Black Keys

The Black Keys are an American rock duo from Akron, Ohio, formed in 2001. Comprising guitarist and vocalist Dan Auerbach and drummer Patrick Carney, the group built their reputation through self-produced basement recordings as an independent act. Their raw blues rock style, informed by Auerbach's deep appreciation for classic blues artists such as Junior Kimbrough, R.L. Burnside, and Howlin' Wolf, helped establish them as leading figures in the garage rock revival that gained momentum throughout the 2000s. The band's stripped-down approach to rock and blues continues to define their sound and influence within alternative and indie rock circles.
