This was the inaugural single released by the English rock band the Electric Light Orchestra on 23 June 1972. The track served as the opening single from their self-titled debut album released in 1971. The song blends hard rock with psychedelic influences and features cello instrumentation. It was originally composed by co-founder Jeff Lynne for the Move, the band he shared with Roy Wood, before Wood incorporated orchestral elements to create the Electric Light Orchestra's version.
