The English Beat are a Birmingham-based band that emerged in the late 1970s, forming in 1978. Drawing from a diverse range of musical influences, the group synthesized elements of Latin rhythms, ska, pop, soul, reggae, and punk rock into a distinctive sound. Associated with the Two Tone movement and the broader post-punk and new wave scenes of their era, they became notable figures in the UK's rock and indie landscape. Their genre-blending approach helped define the sound of early 1980s British alternative music.
