X‐Ray Spex
X-Ray Spex were an English punk rock band that emerged from London in 1976. Founded by Poly Styrene following her attendance at a Sex Pistols performance, the group became known for their distinctive sound and socially conscious approach to punk. Styrene's striking appearance and vocal delivery made her a memorable figure in the British punk scene, while her songwriting critiqued consumer culture and capitalist systems. The band's incorporation of saxophone set them apart from their punk contemporaries, and their musical legacy influenced the riot grrrl movement of the 1990s. X-Ray Spex drew from both punk and reggae traditions before concluding their initial run in the early 1980s, reuniting periodically until 2008.
