Wonderful Town is a 1953 musical with a book by Joseph A. Fields and Jerome Chodorov, lyrics by Betty Comden and Adolph Green, and music by Leonard Bernstein. The work follows two sisters pursuing careers as a writer and actress from their Greenwich Village basement apartment in New York City. The musical is derived from Fields and Chodorov's 1940 stage play My Sister Eileen, which itself drew inspiration from Ruth McKenney's autobiographical short stories published in The New Yorker during the late 1930s and subsequently compiled in book form. The adaptation drew primarily from the final two stories in McKenney's collection, which were substantially reworked for the stage.
