Giuseppe Verdi was an Italian composer whose operas established him as one of the most significant figures in classical music. Born in 1813 near Busseto in the Parma region to a family of limited means, Verdi received his early musical training through the patronage of Antonio Barezzi, a local benefactor. Throughout his long career spanning nearly nine decades, he composed numerous works that became central to the operatic repertoire. His contributions to 19th-century European music secured his legacy as a master of the form, with his compositions continuing to dominate stages worldwide. Verdi died in 1901 at the age of 87.
