USA for Africa

U.S.A. for Africa was an American supergroup formed in 1985 to support humanitarian relief efforts. The collective recorded the charity single "We Are the World," written by Michael Jackson and Lionel Richie and produced by Quincy Jones. The song was created to raise funds for famine relief in Ethiopia during the 1983–1985 crisis. Released as part of the album of the same name, the single became a massive commercial success, selling over 20 million copies worldwide and ranking among the best-selling singles in music history. The project exemplified the power of collective artistic effort toward philanthropic causes.
