Play is Moby's fifth studio album, released in May 1999 through Mute Records and V2 Records. Recording started in mid-1997 following his previous album Animal Rights. Moby intended the project to mark a return to electronic music, combining downtempo sounds with blues and roots music samples. The album was originally conceived as his final release and was produced at his Manhattan home studio.
