The song was composed by American songwriter Boudleaux Bryant. The Everly Brothers recorded it in July 1960. However, the track achieved its greatest commercial success through later cover versions, particularly a 1974 rendition by Scottish hard rock group Nazareth and a 1975 version by English artist Jim Capaldi, both of which became hit recordings in the United Kingdom.
