Neil Young composed this song while ill with a high fever at his Topanga, California residence. It premiered on his 1969 album "Everybody Knows This Is Nowhere," alongside several other compositions created during the same period of illness. Young subsequently recorded live renditions that appeared on multiple albums, including the collaborative Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young project "4 Way Street." The song was also covered by The Byrds on their self-titled album.
