The Tarriers

The Tarriers were an American vocal ensemble active from 1956 to 1965, known for their contributions to folk and folk-influenced popular music. Taking their name from the traditional folk song "Drill, Ye Tarriers, Drill," the group achieved their greatest commercial success in the mid-1950s. Their two signature recordings, "Cindy, Oh Cindy" and "The Banana Boat Song," both reached the US Top Ten during 1956–57, with the latter reaching number 15 on the UK Singles Chart. These successes established the Tarriers as notable interpreters of folk material during the early stages of the folk music revival.
