t.A.T.u. is a Russian pop duo formed in 2000, comprising vocalists Lena Katina and Julia Volkova. The pair initially performed in the children's ensemble Neposedy before being signed by producer Ivan Shapovalov to the Neformat label. Their debut album, released in 2001, achieved significant commercial success across Eastern Europe. Following this breakthrough, they signed with Interscope Records and released an English-language version in 2002, which reached platinum status in Europe and topped the Japanese charts—a notable achievement for an international group at the time. The album spawned international hits including "All the Things She Said" and "Not Gonna Get Us." The duo represented Russia at Eurovision 2003, placing third with their entry. Active until 2011, t.A.T.u. blended pop, electronic, and rock elements, establishing themselves as prominent figures in early 2000s alternative pop music.
