Syd Barrett was an English singer, guitarist, and songwriter who co-founded Pink Floyd in 1965. As the band's frontman and principal creative force until 1968, Barrett shaped their distinctive psychedelic sound through imaginative songwriting and innovative guitar techniques. His approach to the instrument was characterized by experimental use of effects including distortion, echo, and feedback, alongside unconventional playing methods. Barrett's whimsical and associative lyrical style helped define early psychedelic rock, establishing him as an influential figure in 1960s British music before his departure from the group.
