The Style Council
The Style Council were an English pop band formed in Woking by Paul Weller, previously the lead vocalist and guitarist of rock group the Jam, alongside keyboardist Mick Talbot. Active from 1983 to 1989, the group emerged from Weller's desire to move beyond the Jam's sound toward a more artistic, continental aesthetic. Blending pop, rock, and jazz influences with elements of hip hop and soul, The Style Council carved out a distinctive identity that reflected their experimental approach to songwriting and arrangement. The band represented a significant stylistic departure for Weller and showcased his evolution as a musician and composer during the 1980s.
